A modern, open approach to citizen decision-making
Inspired by a vision of Scottish Independence that connects people with the decisions that shape their communities

What do the Swiss and the Scots have in common? They both think the people are the ultimate sovereign authority.
In Switzerland, decision-making is decentralised; issues are handled at the most local level possible (communal or cantonal) before reaching the federal level.
Unlike the UK Parliament, Switzerland’s Popular Sovereignty gives voters the final word on all laws. Any law passed by Parliament can be challenged by collecting 50,000 signatures within 100 days of the law’s publication. This triggers a nationwide vote where a simple majority can veto the law. Read about how real democracy is a practical aim which we can fully implement when independent.
